Breathwork
with Nicola Price
Episode 3 , The Chakra Series
With this in mind, we invited a guest that could not only talk about this subject but also weave in the hugely interrelated concepts of mind, body and soul in one conversation.
“Ancient wisdom and modern science shows breathwork has an array of benefits through accessing the body’s innate physical and emotional intelligence, and for many, a spiritual connection.”
Why do we have a dysfunctional breath in the first place?
Firstly, there’s social conditioning. Just think of the phrases that reduce people’s truth, for example “big boys don’t cry”. When we hear others questioning our truth, what happens is that we stop the free flow of the breath. This is a direct result from not allowing ourselves to cry, scream or show any other emotions.
Ideally, we let emotions be felt, understood and flow. To let the breath take its natural course would be healthy, but what happens is that actually we block that process!
When emotions are held in the body at a cellular level, it’s called the ‘Emotional Charge’. Candace B. Pert was the first scientist to demonstrate how the chemicals inside our bodies form a dynamic information network, linking mind and body. The in-depth findings of this research can be found in her book “Molecules Of Emotion.”
How can the breath be used?
“The breath allows us to feel our emotions the moment they come up, and to clear those that we have stacked up over long periods of time (i.e. grief, anger, sadness etc.).”
